2011 Sale Results

Swan Hill Sold 13 Santa Gertrudis bulls at the Longreach All Breeds Bull Sale on 8th of April for an average of $6 846 and a top price of $10 000.

8 Charolais cross Santa Gertrudis bulls sold for an average of $3 687 and 2 Red Angus cross Santa Gertrudis bulls sold for an average of $4 000.

Michaela Russell associate judge at Brisbane Ekka

Michaela Russell, in her capacity as 2010 Santa Gertrudis Youth Ambassador, was appointed associate judge for the Santa Gertrudis judging at the Brisbane Exhibition. She enjoyed the opportunity to participate in the judging with senior judge, Reade Radel of Injune.

Santa Gertrudis exhibitors paraded 90 head before the judges and Reade Radel commented on the high standard of exhibits. The Russell family congratulates all the winners, place getters and exhibitors for their excellent presentation of Santa Gertrudis cattle.

Micheala Russell Youth Ambassador

The Russell family is pleased and proud to announce that Cam’s daughter, Michaela Russell, has been awarded the R.J. Kleberg Memorial Scholarship for 2010 and will be the Santa Gertrudis Youth Ambassador for 2010. Michaela is in her final year of university study in business management and marketing and is actively involved in the Swan Hill stud. She has been a supervisor at the Santa Gertrudis National Junior Show in both 2009 and 2010.

Wet season commences at Swan Hill

2010 has commenced on a high note at Swan Hill with the 2009 dry ending with rain on Christmas Day. This was followed by a very wet New Year and another 125 mls in early February. The country is now looking green and beautiful and we are looking forward to a strong and well fed crop of new calves.

Purchase of a Waco Winner

Swan Hill also purchased a young poll sire – Waco Winner (P) for $18,000.

Waco Winner (P) is a poll sire showing excellent muscle and masculinity. He will be used to strengthen the poll influence at Swan Hill. Winner's sire Romeo, matured into a big volume bull with excellent sheath, fertility and temperament. We look forward to Winner's contribution to our poll herd.

New Charolais Sire

In 2009 we added Advance Dodge D1E, purchased at the Charolais National Show and Sale for top price of $12,500. He was Calf Champion at Beef 2009 and Reserve Junior Champion at the Brisbane show.

New Poll Bloodlines

2009 saw the addition of new poll Yarrawonga bloodlines to Swan Hill. Cam and Terry attended the Yarrawonga 50th Celebration Sale in September and the stud has welcomed Yarrawonga Wattle (P), the top price ($18,000) female of the sale.Yarrawonga Wattle (P) was Junior Champion Heifer at 2009 Sydney Royal and at Beef 2009. Her dam, Yarrawonga Skye, also has an impressive show record. Alastair Bassingthwaighte considers her to be one of the best females that he has bred.
